Well as many of you know, I have been out of a job for a month now when my last job decided to transfer to another city. I went to a 'cattle call' for a job I saw in the paper. Tons of people there....you know, the typical resume screening process. I got a call 2 days later that I was scheduled for the 1st interview. I went and 3 days later was called back for a 2nd interview. Was told at that interview that they were narrowing down to 5 for a 3rd interview with the directors. (Felt like I was on Survivor and was wondering when I would have to put out my torch).....anyway a week later they called me back in for a 3rd interview. Found out yesterday...I GOT THE JOB! Woo hoo! As nice as sitting at home collecting unemployment has been, I was beginning to go a little stir crazy......not to mention the limited budget we have been on with just hubbies income. Now I get to be his 'Sugar Mamma!' Yeah! I've got one more week of 'vacation' and then it's back to work!!
Halloween is now officially now at our house. Got everything all packed up this weekend. I tried to convince hubby to leave up Doctor Shivers year round and we could decorate him for every holiday......you know, like some people with those stupid geese?? Tee hee hee, I lost that argument though. I still think Dr. Shivers would look hot in some bunny ears at Easter. We only had to buy a couple more storage bins at Maulmart. (Which is really good!!) Stirring witch cauldron, 3 witches and Dr. Shivers all are new this year and are all going to take up lots of space. Next weekend hubby is going to build a new shelf in the garage. This one is going to be above the camper. I don't know what we're going to do once the new shelf fills up.
Our annual Halloween party was a HUGE success!! Everyone that said they were coming showed. Everyone was in costume and only a couple didn't follow the theme costume rule. But at least they dressed up!! Most of the food went, ALL the alcohol went!! The murdered fairy tale character mystery game was a BIG hit. Everyone really got into that game. Even after the first team won, the other teams continued to play anyway just because they wanted to solve the mystery. The horror movie sound wav game was also well received. Anyway, enough of my babble....here are some pics: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/lhallow/album/576460762332625822#page1
Hubby picked up the brand new album for me as an early birthday gift! I just listened to it, and I love it already. I can see me getting just as obsessed over this album as I did with the last. There are some great haunting tunes!! I also read the lyrics as I listened and there are some very morbid songs.
Took me long enough, huh? Still much more to do, but things are slowly coming together! Anyway, enjoy. '06 Props: http://photos.yahoo.com/lhallow
5 years....a day we will never forget. Our company lost workers in our NYC office in building #7. This summer I went to our relocated office and heard the horrific stories from 2 survivors still working for our company.....my life after hearing those stories will never be the same. I just hugged both of them for a long time after hearing their stories. They and I were in tears. My uncle is a NJ fireman/EMT part of a disaster team that travels country wide if needed. He was dispatched to ground zero shortly before tower number 1 fell. He spent more than a month there and still won't/can't talk about what he saw. So many people lost.....so many families torn apart. Life is a precious gift and can be taken from you or people you love at any moment. LIVE your life and make the most of everyday.
Labor Day weekend allowed me 3 days to work on Halloween props!!! I finished the witch for the stirring cauldron prop. I also got the cauldron started. The plastic drum has been cut to size, the top rim is on and the handles are started. The full moon is finished (I uploaded a pic) and I will just need to test it out once the cinafoil arrives (many thanks to headlesshorseman!) I am soooo happy that hubby seems to have really caught the Halloween bug this year! He's always been supportive of my obsession, but this year he's really doing a lot. He's in charge of making the witch stir the cauldron and so far is doing a great job! He also helped me a lot with getting the pvc/chicken wire frame done for the witch. I knew one day my craziness would rub off on him
Finally got a good start on this years styrofoam tombstones! Over the weekend, hubby and I went camping......it gave me some time to work on the designing and engraving of 3 stones I had already cut into shape. When we came home Sunday, I managed to get them all painted (latex of course) black. I let them dry overnight and on Monday evening I spraypainted them grey and a couple of accent colors. Hubby was sweet enough to cut out plywood to the shape of the tombstones. He then nailed a 2x6 to the plywood to form an L shape. I used Liquid Nails to attach the the tombstones to the L base. Tonight I will go back and drill a couple of holes in the bottom of the L base and spray the L base black. This technique works really well to stabilize foam tombstones. I set up my graveyard in the garage, so weather is not an issue.....however in the past I have set up my graveyard in the front yard, and have never lost a tombstone in Chicago's crazy weather. The holes in the L base are for outside display, I will put a steel rod through them and pound the rod into the ground. Those suckers DON'T move!
After reading on the Halloween Forum that Big Lots had there Halloween stuff out, I decided to head over there. So glad I did!! Purchases: -2 big rubber bats: one hanging upside down and a flying one with poseable wings...they were $10. a piece. -a foam skeleton top half with poseable arms to put in front of a tombstone $12.99. -Spider web, 2 bags each of plain, glow in the dark and black. $1. per bag - 2 packs of jack-o-lantern lights to hang from the awning of the camper for autumn camping trips $4. per pack I saw soooo much more I wanted to get (of course, when it comes to Halloween stuff, there isn't much that I wouldn't take) heheh, but hubby kept me from spending way too much money!!
