Back in '84, while doing the Dungeon of Terror, I was put in charge of the kitchen massacre...(not my idea for a room...but there it is.)
We had built a counter with a sink, had an actual working referige where we kept some awfully nasty looking stuff made from real liver.

On the counter we had a maniquin, looking as if we were butchering it, so we had a lot of disconnected parts strewn about! This is where I started doing what I called a psycotic bum.
I dressed rather grungy and walked as if one leg did not wanna support my weight. In reallity, it was nothing special. But I would take this bloody maniquin arm and pretend I was chewing on it, when in fact, I was chewing on a piece of apple and a blood capsule.
As the patrons walken in, I would look up at them and the apple with blood would come slobbering out.

This is where I gained the attitude that the goal of a actor in a Haunted Attraction is to scare, or sicken, or make the patrons laugh. The good ones can do all three at the same time!
