things you like in haunted houses

I think a themed haunt needs a good background story.  You need your viewers pumped and ready to go when they enter.  I have seen this done two ways.  An actor dressed for the story line, sitting at the entrance who engages the first person in line.  Pretty soon everyone waiting was quiet and listening.  The actor wouldn't answer questions so it left people thinking of their own worst fears.  Pretty good experience.  The other was just a sign with a warning posted on it.  You can plant a lot of seeds of imagination with the right wording.   Just my thoughts.

Now that is what we do when guest enter are tunnel of doom, we have a creature in there who tell each group what there about to embark on, he does not tell them everything, then they enter through the revolving tunnel on to the trail.  We had a discussion about it the other day, wondering if we should do away with him being that everyone in line heres the same thing when there standing in line?  He changes it up  sometimes if the person outside who lets them in heres a name she will tell the creature inside and he will use the name and there wondering how he knows there name.  We thought about playing music in the tunnel  and just let them go through the tunnel now i am not so sure. Does anyone think that it bores people to hear the creature inside talking to the group inside the tunnel, or do you think it adds to the scare?  We change the tunnel of doom up every year making it different adding creepy things hanging nets, skulls dead bodies, skelletons that sort of thing.
