party themes
Every year there is a different theme at the Manor. We have had witches and all things black. A Haunted Wedding. Hotel Kalifornia. And this years is Masquerade Theater.
Let us know what you're planning!

Our place is called Castle Sharp but every year we change the theme. This year it is Pirates Of The Caribbean.
Last year our theme was castle sharp and in the castle we had Vampire pic's and skeletons etc...things of that nature.
We were going to do a Van Helsing theme last year or the addams family. But changed our minds.

Themes are fun.....but not needed to have a good party.

I love doing themes!! I just think they give you more opportunity to be creative with foor and decorations.
Also I notice that guests seem to get more into costumes when they have a specific theme.

edit: Oh yeah, this years theme is Twisted Fairytales: Unhappy Endings

creativity
yep you gals are right on both accounts. Guess it depends on your circle of friends. Most of my friends are older and "wouldnt" dress up. They like the idea of dressing up, but feel too weird doing it on there own. This way its all my fault they look silly, which they dont ever! Most of the time they do a spectaluar job! The year we had witches or anything black one came as a raven. Her costume was great.
I really like the twisted faerie-tale...placing that one in the back of my mind.

Its cool how most of us has names for homes, Haunted Dungeon, Castle Sharp.

I've never thought about naming my parties. In fact, my husband and I usually call them "get togethers". I don't know, maybe I'm scared if I say party people will "expect" more.

Our theme this is year is a Monster Ball at PineStone Castle. We'll line our shop walls with that stone look scene setter material 8' up and add castley decorations. Buck the talking deer will be announcing the start of our main game that I call Castle Clue. We're going to record the announcement on cd and then play it on a cd player connected to Buck. His head and mouth moves to sound. We'll also have a haunted Labryrinth at the back of the shop with a Ghoul Gallery, Scary doll corner, a rat attack, corner coven and spider den. In the main hall we're going to attempt a Harry Potter floating candle effect-we'll see on that one. In any case. the place will be lighted by candles only (safely placed of course) which is a great effect.

We had a dinner buffet last year and spent a lot of money on food that hardly anyone ate so this year we're just doing snacks.

To Theme or Not to Theme...
I've done parties both ways, and had success with both. When I began throwing them, there was no theme - only requirement was you came in costume. The last 4 years we've had themes, and I can honestly say, I find more people participate wholeheartedly when we have a theme. I guess it cuts down on the stress of choosing a costume!! We've done Come as You Aren't, a Gothic Gathering; a Magickal Masquerade, and Bring out Your Dead. LOTS of fun for all of them. Always make the invitation to the theme so everyone knows what to expect.
This year is Davy Jones' Locker, aka Pirates. Alot of friends asked for this theme, and it seemed a good year for it, what with the movie and all there should be alot of costumes and props available for the "costume challenged". I have one friend who said he's going to where an Average Joes T-shirt and come as Steve the Pirate (from the movie Dodgeball)...not exactly what I had in mind, but hey, it's creative....just doesn't require alot of effort!

PARTY THEMES
THIS YEAR MY THEME IS FRIDAY THE 13TH. WE ARE HAVING OUR HALLOWEEN PARTY THAT NIGHT BECAUSE WE HAVE OTHER PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND BEFORE HALLOWEEN. SO MY PARTY WILL HAVE MANY DISPLAYS AND GAMES CENTERED AROUND SUPERSTITIONS. AND IF SOMEONE WANTS TO COME AS JASON, THEN SO BE IT. ANYWAY, WE ARE HAVING A POTLUCK DINNER AND I TOLD EVERYONE TO BRING A GRUESOMELY NAMED DISH. OR I WOULD HELP THEM WITH THE NAMES. I PRINT UP LITTLE SIGNS TO GO WITH EACH FOOD DISH SO EVERYONE CAN READ THEM AND GET GROSSED OUT. I HAVE A SIGN OUTSIDE THAT SAYS BLACK CAT CROSSING. AND IN SOME HALLWAYS PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO WALK UNDER A LADDER TO PASS THRU. I PLAN ON HAVING A BROKEN HAND MIRROR ON THE BATHROOM COUNTER, AND WILL COVER ALL THE MIRRORS IN THE HOUSE WITH CHEESECLOTH LIKE THERE HAS BEEN A DEATH IN THE HOUSE. I HAVE DUMMYS PLANNED TO BE PLACED AROUND THE HOUSE. IN A BED IN THE MASTER BEDROOM, DECEASED. AMONG OTHERS. IT ISN'T OFTEN WE GET A FRI. 13TH IN OCTOBER SO I WANTED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT AND DO A THEME. I DON'T ALWAYS DO A THEME BUT THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD ONES. IT IS A TRADITION I PLAN TO BEGIN, STARTING THIS YEAR. NEXT YEAR IS ALREADY BEING PLANNED IN THE RECESSES OF MY DARK MIND.
