Criminal Mischief Alternate Reality Gaming Company develops and hosts a range of pay-to-play AREEs and live action adventures that are not for the faint of spirit. Our plots are hardcore and ultra ballsy.
We have taken the explosive genre of Immersive Gaming to a whole new level by bringing our scenarios and plots to life and inserting unwitting players into pre-established mysteries with intricate plots specifically designed to play upon their fears, confusion, and uncertainty, while challenging them with realistic obstacles in which they must rely on skill, ingenuity, courage, and wit in order to "survive" the game that doesn't know it's a game...
Criminal Mischief's AREEs may appear to border elaborate practical jokes and pranks, however, given the substance of the predicaments, they are far more productive in that they allow players (witting and unwitting alike) to reacquaint themselves with their inherent Survivor Instinct and enthusiasm for adventure - two very important human requirements that have been long since lost amid the foggy laziness of the indolent video gaming industry where players sit around manipulating digital characters in a cartoon environment, exercising little more than their thumb muscles.
Our AREEs are designed to exercise a player's Survival Instinct muscle and provide a high octane, action intense, immersive gaming experience they won't soon forget.
All gameplay is performance, and all gamers are performers. But some gamers adopt unexpected strategies to make their gameplay more extroverted, more attention-generating, more compulsively watchable, more theatrical — in other words, more high performance.
We operate off the truthful premise that the idea of fear is usually more than enough human motivation than an outright threat, so we make full use of the levers of fear and confusion while making sure that none of our players are harmed or injured while being maneuvered through an AREE, in which players initially do not know when or that they are playing, but have a pre-established timeframe in which to figure it out and then go on to either uncover the solution to the mystery or suceed in overcoming the posed challenge, where their success is rewarded with cash and/or prizes that were originally inserted into the plot itself.
The live action adventures operate off the same premise, however, players are openly aware of them as actual games and compete in action packed adventure contests against one another for cash and prizes.
When we say "partners in crime," we don't mean that we will help anyone liberate a bank vault of its bounty or murder their neighbor "in real life." We mean we will be more than happy to design an AREE that invokes such a sinister plot and cast the intended victim in the starring role as main suspect in a realistic but quite fictional nightmare come true.
We can also design AREEs in which the client takes the starring role, realizes that it is fiction, and still enjoy the high octane challenge of the immersive gaming experience.
Our intricate plots are strictly adopted from George Polti's 36 Dramatic Situations, modifed to fit the unsuspecting player's current reality, and executed through a collaborative effort between Criminal Mischief's Fright Club and the partner in crime. (i.e. purchaser of the AREE).
Our services and games are harmless and completely legal - we happily skirt the edges of insanity and unlawfulness, but never cross it, as none of us at Criminal Mischief wants to go to prison. We do not overtly threaten - we merely imply or allude to a threatening consequence; we don't actually subject players to literal dangers - we merely exploit FX and fear to suggest danger, leaving the decisions up to the players, as this allows for a higher quality free-form interactive gaming experience, shaping their adventure as they go along.
If you are still confused as to the nature of AREEs and what, exactly, we do, this should clear it up.
Criminal Mischief also hosts a variety of mature and adult themed public games that are not for the faint of spirit since these games can - and will - be played in month long chunks, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week...where almost anything goes! The games are specifically designed to be challenging, skill developing and skill testing - and all but the Hunts employ a strong warrior combat/conquest theme.
When players play any of the CM games, they become the Hunter...and the Hunted. They may be stalked, tracked, ambushed, set up, deceived, caught off guard, sent running for their lives, or captured and imprisoned. They may be bombed, blown up, poisoned, or have their weapons lifted.
They will enter an environment where their abilities at strategy, subterfuge, and spying will be put to the ultimate test as they rely on wit, ingenuity, negotiation, evasive action, and creativity to out-wit, out-play, and out-maneuver other players to make it to the Witching Hour as the last man - or woman - standing to win the game.
Most of the Criminal Mischief *public* Live Action Adventures are themed with a nuance of intrigue and mystique, but no specific characters are required, no costumes or props necessary...however, the Criminal Mischief custom AREEs designed for Gifts for friends and loved ones will consist of hired Accomplices to help add the realism to the alternate reality universe in which the games will be played.
It's All About The Bounty!
In all of the Criminal Mischief public games The Bounty is the reward for the player's gamesmanship. Each player has a price on his or her head. The more players they take out - criteria determined by which game event is in play - the more money they make. If they're good enough, patient enough, sly enough, and motivated enough to make it through a single game event as the sole survivor they can participate in the Grand Championship Tournament game events and compete in a Death Match against other Champions for cash and prizes up to $2,000 or more depending on the game event.

Scavenger/Treasure Hunts/GPS Caching - Not just any old hunt....Criminal Mischief sets you up the bomb. Players compete against time and each other to solve diabolically challenging clues to track down specialty items or to uncover hidden bounties.
GPS Caching is a new genre of treasure hunting where players use GPS devices and long/lat coordinates to locate bounties. Valuable coins and treasure? No way. How about various body parts and the first team to restore a corpse wins...
Example Hunts
Dolls Of Doom - Wicked Clown has hidden 6 ghastly ghoulish little dollies somewhere in the city. All clues are provided on the supporting site. Players must separate the clues from the jumble of confusion, figure out which clue goes with which doll and then solve them to find the location of the dolls. Game is open call and even runs from October 1 - October 31.
The Envelope - Players receive an envelope in the mail containing mundane, seemingly random items that each serve a relevant purpose in the game. The successful solution of the first clue leads the player on to a situation in which one of the items in his envelope plays a useful function in obtaining the next clue, and so on until all items have been used. The final clue and item leads the player to a certificate for the prize involved. The first player to solve the mystery envelope clues wins the Bounty.
Dare...Or Double Dare - Players are instructed though an action packed, adult oriented game of Dare conducted by the Mischief Maker in order to score points for later trade for Bounty. Players solicit sponsor rewards in advance based on the player's anticipation of sucessfully carried out dares (just like you did with the sponsor donations for walk-a-thons in school), which are held by the Criminal Mischief for the duration of the game event and are awarded, in addition to the Bounty, to the player per each successful dare.
The rule of thumb for the Mischief Maker is to not pose a dare he or she isn't also willing to carry out him or herself, thus players are permitted (if not encouraged) to challenge the Mischief Maker to a "double dare" and if the MM fails to carry out the dare, the challenging player automatically wins the Bounty and sponsor rewards. If the MM carries out the dare, the challenging player is out of the game, and sponsor rewards are returned to the sponsors.
Triple X Scavenger Hunt - A truly naughty scavenger hunt for consenting adults only. The Mischief Maker provides players with a list of naughty - but not so easily obtained - items that players must locate and return successfully to the Mischief Maker, as well as various exploits the players must provably pull off by the end of the game event. The first player to return the items and perform the exploits successfully to the Mischief Maker in the shortest amount of time wins the Bounty. Players may play individually or in teams against either. Team winners split the Bounty between them while lone players receive the full jackpot and some naughty prizes.
Road Rallies - Regular Play: Motor Teams gather at a certain location and are given a packet of clues and instructions, and then make use of their vehicles to travel the course to the finish line. The team that has successfully solved all the clues, completed all challenges, signed in at all checkpoints and made it to the final check point in the shortest amount of time wins cash and prizes. Criminal Mischief Twist: get to know the region's foremost serial killers, visit some ancient graveyards, check in at the haunted houses...
Poker Runs - Regular Play: An offshoot of the Road Ralley (that is NOT a race) where players make between 5 and 7 stops at various establishments in order to pick up a playing card. The player who makes the best poker hand wins cash and prizes. Criminal Mischief Twist: we have our own deck, thanks.
Mystery Weekend Adventures - Forget dinner theater. Think SAW 2. Think The Game. They are not for the faint of heart. CM Mystery Adventures send players on a genuine thrill ride with adrenaline intense challenges. If a clown shows up in your front yard, you're in for some shit.
FlashPoint - A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse. They are usually organized with the help of the Internet or other digital communications networks. FlashPoints make use of sponsor rewards, Bounty, and other prizes for players to compete against one another in orchastrating the largest gathering of a flash mob in a specific period of time.
The MM will declare at the start of the game what small token or item the "mob" people must bring to the competing player at a designated time. The players then solicit sponsor rewards based on the total number of individuals the flash mob was able to generate. At the end of the game (when the mob disperses) the players return all the items/tokens to the MM for tallying. Winning player receives Bounty and Sponsor Rewards. May be used as promotional endeavor by merchants.
Road Rallies, Poker Runs, Flash Points, Scavenger/Treasure Hunts, GPS Caching, and Mystery Weekend Adventures are available as promotional ventures in conjunction with local merchants or as hired services for private parties, team building exercises, or general public participation. While the descriptions may sound tame, these games and hunts are infused with the Criminal Mischief twist designed to provoke an all over body rush of adrenaline and fear as players get in touch with their Inner Freak.
