I am a home haunter in his 6th year of Yard haunting. My taste for the haunt began with a black light, fog machine and cheesy glow-in-the-dark bones in my tiny apartment's foyer (6'x6'). That was 8 years ago. Today, I have over 230' of fencing, 13 tombstones, a pet cemetery, three brick pillars, a talking bucky, and a boiling pond adorning my front yard.
My goal for the last couple of years was to make the display a walkthrough. Hasn't happened yet and may not for a couple of years. The years have taken a toll on some of my props (and I've gotten more anal as time has gone on) and they need rebuilt. Working on 6' tall cemetery fence pillars wrapped in concrete for the up-coming year.
I also do custom LED lighting designs to-order. I'm nowhere near a full-blown retailer - just a hobyist passing on my knowledge and talent.
I make a concerted effort every year to keep my haunt clean. For kids, Halloween should be about ghosts, goblins and skeletons, not axe/knife/chainsaw-wielding psychopaths, decapitated corpses, and bloody operating rooms.
