You stand alone at your window overlooking the wide moors. The full moon casts eerie blue shadows across the barren land surrounding your familys manor. With a cry, you jump back, forgetting the open window. With inhuman speed, the young man catches you before you fall, presumably, to your death. "Who are you?" you gasp the moment you are able to speak. "My name is Erik," he says, and bends his head and kisses you. You are instantly smitten. He tells you how he first saw you, and how he fell in love with you. After kissing you some more and whispering sweet nothings in your ear, Erik leaves, promising to return soon. You fall asleep with the taste of his kisses still on your lips. The next time you meet, it is not as romantic. Erik hurriedly tells you that he is a vampire, and that his clan has abandoned him because he fell in love with a mortal. You stare at him, openmouthed. He says that you are in terrible danger, because the vampires want to kill you. Any time you spend with him after that are stolen moments while on the run for your life. The vampires finally catch up with you, and though Erik fights bravely to defend you, you are outnumbered, and you fall to a cunning vampire that has snuck up on you from behind. With your dying breath you tell Erik how much you love him. The vampires laugh and disperse, leaving Erik to mourn over your body. Not wanting to hide his fair love beneath earth, he lays your body on a small boat and strews it with flowers, then sets you afloat across a dark lake. Erik spends the rest of his immortal life avenging your death, and villagers near the lake swear for years to come that when a fog rolls across the water, they see flowers falling through the air and a maidens voice crying out for someone to save her.
